AutoText is a great way to speed type on your Blackberry, it has the ability to recognize what you type, compare it to its library and replace it with what you have told it to. Similar to shorthand, AutoText allows you to replace common words and phrases with keywords allowing you to type much faster.
Steps
- Think about words that you type often.
- Go to Options–>Autotext (or on a 7100 Tools – Settings – Autotext).
- Add options that you want Autotext to replace (i.e., TY with Thank You or L1 with a pre-written generic thank you note).
- Hit backspace to show the replacement text in your message.
Tips
- On the 7100, the autotext will work best if you are not using the truetype. However, if you prefer the truetype (predictive typing), then don’t worry about the ‘codes’ you type (you simply remember what they stand for). For example, if you wanted to create a ‘code’ for “I am in a meeting now. Can you try to connect up with me a little later?”. Your code could be “IMTG”. So just think IMTG and hit the keys and don’t worry what it actually types on your screen (It doesn’t matter, because it will be converted into your sentence or phrase anyway).
