Silversoft today announces the release of CinePlay, a free, open
source, cross platform offline media player capable of flash video
playback as well as a variety of other formats.
Underscoring cinefx's vision for helping to advance open source technology, Cineplay marks a clear milestone. CinePlay uses OpenGL for hardware accelerated playback and supports all codecs, from FLV, Quicktime, DivX and AVI files to uncompressed sequences. The unrestricted video player also supports all mobile video content, iPod video and DivX; it is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, Mac OSX (Intel Version), and Linux.
CinePlay's intuitive interface allows for simple drag and drop loading and is also capable of full screen video playback. The free media player is the first of other multi platform video products developed by cinefx which are scheduled for release this year.
cinefx is spearheading the move to develop a range of Open Source based video software for mixing, editing, encoding, uploading & playback. The easy to use video applications answer the needs of a thriving video community which has always been at the root of cinefx's open source tradition. Leading social networks, broadcasters & media companies, such as Metacafé and audiotube currently use cinefx's technology to power their video content. Website developers and online video consumers can also expect to benefit from the open source project. cinefx will soon provide its server side encoding and video editing products at a lower than usual cost, making it possible for smaller websites to integrate video content on their website.
“We aim to take the pain out of video – whether for end users or for websites. We are leveraging our open source tradition to create products and services that are easy to use and which take the complications out of creating, playing or distributing video content".
